A story of Yamaha 135 LC and my friend....

First of all, Yamaha 135LC is a very beautiful motorcycle..I wish i have one but I'm not. A tragic story about it is one of my friend@classmate hardly wants to buy it..he is a debater@speaker..a very charismatic speaker. He participated in most of the competition and a lots of winning as the awards. He had just coming back from an event(whereidunno), but poor him.he never have it...

The most sad part of it is, if he wins, just like what he said to me,(if i'm not mistaken), he wants to buy it(Yamaha 135LC) cashed! Pity him..he hardly go for it..but unluckily he never have it...but for me, it is not a lost, he just miss the opportunity..that is the best way to describe his lost.

My advice for you: Never give up my friend! You know you can do it! I know and everybody knows! Go for it..you will have it one day...owned one(yamaha 135LC) so i can have a try..hahaha. Try harder next time..there will always be chances everywhere..don't you worry about it...vrooomm2!!

'13'

Thirteen weeks of drama class gave me better information on plaay, theatre or drama. Exposure is the best word to describe my experience. I know nothing much about theatre before, but now I am well informed.

Such a great thing, the art of the art - drama-. It is a very beautiful creative works. Creative mind who create and write such thing as drama. Imagination and briliant thought needed. I think now I fell in love with drama, play or theatre.

It is a great opportunity to be in this class, ' Teaching The Language of Drama'. Next semester, will be Theatre. I need to act somehow. I cannot wait for it..

Simulated Teaching - 'Ways to become better'

Presentation of the weakness and strength for our simulated teaching really gave me some idea. What would you do to become a good teacher? Your look? Your speech? or what?

In teaching, firstly a teacher must be one step ahead of the students. Do more research and reading. Search about what you are going to teach about. Deep understanding. Then, learns from the others. As you see your friends making mistake, if you spot a mistake, do learned from it, so that you won't do the same.

Well preparation is important. Do not do your preparation in the last minutes. well prepared gives you your self confidence. You may look confidence with your explanation and so on.

Do not forget to dress-up for your simulated teaching. It is a training for you to become a future teacher.

Check on your language. Your fluency, body language, eye contact and voice projection is important. Polish up your language.

Simulated Teaching (part III)

My own reflection:

It was the biggest mistake i made for my simulated teaching. I got only one chance to present, but I myself ruined it. I have learned my lesson now, at least this memory will always remind me to be more careful, detail and well prepared.

It is because I am not well prepared, last minute preparation cost me a lot. What a waste, I should prepare earlier next time. Hope soon I will become a better and better person as well as a better teacher one day.

I have learned mine, what did you learned from yours?

Simulated Teaching (part II)

Presentation Day:

I went to class, with my nervousness inside. My heart is pumping very fast...Oh my God...

I went to ask Miss Kastoory about my plan, what am I going to do and the activities. Unfortunately she said, 'you cannot used the whole text. You must have the extract, but we will see what do you have....' Ohh my..... I was like..urghhh.. I forgot about the extract, I thought if it is a short play, I can use the whole text for teaching. But I went wrong...

I was totally frustrated. Tired and mad of myself. not anyone else... When it ccomes to my turn to teach, I just walked in front and start my teaching session. I don not care much about anything else except my teaching. But seriously, I am not happy that day..it was all my fault, my biggest mistake. It may effect my marks..but at least I will never ever forgot about the extract. my bad, my bad.....

Simulated Teaching (part I)

Preparation:

what am I going to do...hmmm...aha!
I choose the play which I think nobody will expected it. I have learned a short play entittle 'The Ring'. It is about a troublesome boy Raj and a demon. A girl demon, as Raj says she is cute. Weird huh? Yup it is weird.

As for set induction, I choose a picture of a demon. I think it going to be alright, ask some questions about demon and so on. The activity is simple not so tough for my students. Searching for Raj and the demon , Lela characteristics, finding the textual evidence for several characteristics.

I hope I am going to be Okay, by the way honestly I am not well prepared.

King and King and King

Oedipus the King, one of the ancient play that I learned from Dr Edwin. Oedipus the king who at first kind of heroic character. Oedipus solve the riddle that save Thebes. But then he realized that he is a bad person where he killed his own father and then he married his own mother which is both he do not know about; the truth. How pathetic marrying your mother? Killing your father? It is so very bad.

Then, the next play i learned is King Lear. Lear throw out his own daughter because of Cordelia, cannot say in words how much she love her father, King Lear. Lear divided his power, to make himself less of burden. Lear show his irresposibility, divided his power, to make his life easy, and making a sudden decision towards her daughter. At last, Cordelia is the one who save and stay with Lear not the other two.

After this...what else? I mean another king? KING KONG maybe...haha..just joking..Why do Dr Edwin pick up dramas related to king? Most of them. Also in Swordfish Then The Concubine. Why....

'Theatre Live'

I never thought that I am going to watch any theatre, theatre in English to be specific. Before this, I have went for theatre twice, but both in Malay. I am force to or I have to watch theatre as one of my task for EDU 3217. It is compulsory. For the first time I heard about it, urrghh...its such a burden.

My friends fazzli, amir, kero, fahmi and I went to KLpac by motorcycle. For your information, we did not know where the KLpac is. All five of us search for the info on the internet, so we have the map to KLpac. But, the biggest problem is, we are not familiar with the area where KLpac is. We just try our best, until we reached at Sentul Timur LRT station.

We ask the taxi drivers there the way to KLpac, but unfortunately most of them did not know or never heard of KLpac. Only one 'uncle' know where is it.He took us there. Thank God, we arrived at KLpac just on time. The play just started.

My very first step inside the hall, I was impressed. This is not what I expected. I thought the stage will be larger, and the hall itself. But still, it is nice. There were 3 sided seating, where the audience can watch very close to the actors. It is not just it, there were only 2 actors on stage and just a simple sofa set and a table as the prop.

As the play moving from one scene to another, I felt so overwhelmed by the play. It was great. the actors voice projection was good, their expression and action, I was impressed. It was a great feeling until the end of it. 'Secret Love Life of Ophelia' the play entittled. I wish i will have another chance to watch theatre soon.

A Session with Kee Thuan Chye

Kee Thuan Chye is from Penang. A famous Malaysian writer is here in UPM, spends sometimes with the TESL students. What a great session with Kee Thuan Chye. He is a very nice person, very nice to talk to. Wow! What a great experience to meet, talk and ask him about his experience in writing.

I have read two of his works and the current one is ‘The Swordfish, Then the Concubine’. It is a contemporary or a modern play he wrote, so it is a lot easier to read and to finish reading it. I do admit that I love his works. He makes me think about my beloved country Malaysia, what is happening all around Malaysia. I am able to relate it to the current issues in Malaysia. It makes me more aware to my surrounding. As a good and responsible Malaysian, I extremely agree we should be more sensitive or aware to the events around me. That is how we show our responsibility to this country. ‘I don’t give a damn!’ we should avoid it. Show your responsibility towards your own country, if we the citizens of Malaysia ‘don’t give a damn’ to our surrounding, who else would do? Who else would care for it? This is the message that Kee Thuan Chye trying to tell us, the Important of being a responsible Malaysian. The readers are exposed to the current issues eventhough the setting portrayed the ancient time.

After the session with Mr. Kee Thuan Chye, I personally ask him about the surprising number of characters in ‘The Swordfish, Then the Concubine’. The version that I read, surprisingly, there are 63 characters in it. So, I thought about how they do it on stage. Are you going to pay for 63 actors for one single play? It is insane. He said to me, they were only 15 actors were hired for the play. So, they play several roles per person. He said it was difficult to deal with but they managed to do it well. Isn’t it surprised you? I do. 15 actors for 63 characters? Wow! A single actor should play at least 4 roles. How amazing it is? I wish I will have the chance to go and watch the play soon. Hope the ticket is not too expensive

or else I am not able to pay for it.

Last word from Kee Thuan Chye, BE A GOOD MALAYSIAN!

my very first D.R.A.M.A class

Firstly, I am sorry to say that I don't really remember the date. Pity me. But I do remember several things. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Malachi Edwin Vethamani is the lecturer for 'Teaching The Language of Drama'.

At first, I thought that drama is something that I am familiar with, for example the drama on television as I watch it daily. When Dr. Edwin started to talk about it, the history, venue, the audience and more, it was totally out of my perception.

The drama that I am studying now is something different. It is more like theatre or play. During the ancient time, drama and theatre was one of the popular entertainment. Theatre in Greek is one of the famous theatre. One of the play I have read and learned about is Oedipus Rex by Sophocles. Guess what, the Oedipus complex which is a psychological illness, the name is taken from the character in this play. Oedipus, the king who married his own mother and the mental illness Oedipus complex refers to a person, male who attracted to his own mother. Nothing to do with the play, but the fact really attract my attention. So, drama, theatre or play is interesting and enjoyable.

Movie vs Drama (theatre)

I would like to say that I love watching movie very much. I enjoy watching horror, animation, comedy, action and thriller movies. But sometimes they cost me a lot.
But, what are the differences between movie and drama(theater)?.In movie, the actors are not performing live in front of the audience. Their performance is delayed. They only record into film. There are no audience while they are acting, except the director and the crews. Drama@theatre is performing live in front of the audience. There is no such thing as pauses in drama. While the actors are acting, they cannot stop until the end of the session even though there are some mistakes or the actor forgetting his lines. Computer graphic image (CGI) cannot be use in drama because it is live. I would like to say that the audience in movie sometimes being fooled by CGI. It may sound harsh but, this is reality.
The director in drama does nothing during the show. He cannot interrupt and tell anything to the actors. On the other hand, the movie director is totally dominant. He may stop whenever he wants.
Whatever the differences are, they both are part of arts. We as a human being should appreciate the beauty of the arts and enjoy them.
